Abstract
In prisons across the world, HIV epidemic presents a major challenge to prison communities. Imprisonment continues to rise due to key socio-economic parameters, internal shocks such as political bickering and external shocks which include high crude oil prices and global financial crisis which contributed heavily to increased crime in the country. Although globally HIV prevalence in prisoners is 3%, in Kenya and indeed in Kisumu prisons, it is 15 times higher than in the general adult population with women leading. This study explored challenges prison communities face in relation to HIV and tested the Cell Based Health Care Model in combating its spread.
